CALGARY - George Stroumboulopoulos, the pierced, spiky-haired host of CBC Newsworld's "The Hour," is getting an honorary degree from the University of Calgary during a convocation ceremony next month.
The university says the degrees are given to people who have made "extraordinary achievements and done a great service to the community." The Hour, which features newsy topics as well as celebrity interviews, is in its fourth season.
The University of Calgary notes that Stroumboulopoulos has also travelled to the Arctic, Sudan and Zambia to highlight various causes.
Stroumboulopoulos says he is "totally stoked" to receive the honour, joking that he's glad to finally get a degree and not have to pay off a student loan.
