No,not a message about that song but a question for you. What Gordon Lightfoot song either when you first heard it or even now, brought or brings tears to your eyes? Or even makes you bawl like a baby? *sniff*.
Only one "really" does and a second one comes pretty close. The second one is "The Pony Man",I get a bit misty eyed but I don't cry outright.
The one that "can" do it? "My Love For You" In a serious relationship I had last year,I dedicated that song to the woman I was seeing. (Yes,we were in full tilt love! ) Unfortunately, after being together quite awhile,we went our sepearte ways. (Sorry,no details.) I still miss her closeness so,I try to avoid listening to that song.
I do on occaision, just to see if I can get through it. Sometimes yes, sometimes no.
I'm better than I was nearly a year ago,so don't turn the topic into a "poor B" kind of thing okay?
Like GL said,"I'll Be Alright". (I'm looking around again by the way. )

At just the right (wrong?) time, Clouds of Loneliness can sure get to me. But I still love it.

There's something about That Same Old Obsession that really has this poignant effect on me.
The first time I heard it this happened, and it has never stopped.

I don't know.....not just That Same Old Obsession. Farewell to Annabel did a very similar thing.
Heck, there's something about the Old Dan's Records album overall that does something, but I don't know how to explain it.

There isn't any one song that does it but the one CD that collectively is hard for me to listen to is Waiting For You, it came out not long after my grandfather died and some of the songs cut right to the bone and even to this day 12 yrs later it still hits home.

O.K. try this on for size.
After all our good friend has been through, the first listen of cut #11 of Harmony was so autobiographical and, I felt, painful, it was enough to (yes I have to say it) drive me to tears.

The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face can evoke feelings of longing and loneliness. It doesn't make me cry or anything though. I don't think I would say any of his songs make me cry, but some of them are certainly poignant and strike something within me.

Canary Yellow Canoe makes me sad because it reminds me of Lyle and his tragic death.

Last Christmas, I got my Waiting For You album, and a little less than a month later, my grandfather died. I was also going through hard times in my life as well (love problems). That album was like my getaway from life, and whenever I listen to it now, it always reminds me of those moments.

Watchman, you are so bad!! ROFLMAO! You're just *dying* for someone to ask THE question: who's Lyle? I already know... let's wait for some unsuspecting soul to ask it... heh heh heh

I didn't elucidate on my song choice, "Softly," but, now will. The first time I heard it, I was driving. I was so overcome by emotion, I was sobbing and had to pull the car to the side of the road, I was that much affected. It brought up memories for me, painful ones, sad ones, but, it's not like I'm going to avoid listening to that song now. I'm going to play it TWICE (by hitting the repeat button on my CD player) whenever it comes on so I can just *totally* get into that song -- it's just that evocative.

"I'm Not Supposed to Care" gets me everytime, that not being ready to let go.
"First Time Ever I Saw You Face" reminds me of an old boyfriend who died in '79.(It ws 'our' song).
"Pussy Willows Cattails" ohhh, that haunting cello.

Remember Me (I'm The One). It was summer 2002 and I hadn't heard any of his music for a few years.

Kathy, I'm with you. 'I'm not s'posed to care' is the one that brings me to tears no matter how many times I hear it. Lightfoot can do this to us, because he has been there too.

I cannot listen to Home From the Forest. If I hear it come on the radio I have to turn it off. If I do listen to it I'm ruined for the week

"I'll Tag Along" sounds like a positive song but the mood of it strikes me in a somewhat sad manner. I get a bit misty eyed with that one also, along with Wild Strawberries.
Wild Strawberries talks about "Is it really true, that you can really never win?" (Paraphrasing) That just hits me in the gut!
In Restless he mentions "When you think about your Dad". My Father's been gone 5 years this summer and that line is the unfortunate reminder. I better sign off here. Later.
