I been playing guitar for awhile and consider myself OK at it, but this always stumps me...in concerts when they play Christian Island (and for a little bit in the Railroad Trilogy), Terry gets this great 'mandolin' sound with a quick fanning motion with his right hand. The chords/notes he plays are high up on the neck...is he using a little brush to 'fan' the strings to get this effect? How the heck is he doing it? What are the notes/chords???

I'm usually in the front row on his side of the stage and have watched him do it in amazement quite often, but I'm still clueless...maybe it's time to see a real expert and take some lessons.

HA HA!!! That paints a weird picture in your mind; to think of Gordy, or the guys, sitting in front a computer typing away.

He uses a light gauge pick to do the mandolin part. For strings he uses Ernie Ball extra light gauge. I know he plays triads on the top three strings when doing the mandolin part, but I don't know what the chords positions are. I do know a guy who can help you out, though. If you're also a member of the newsgroup, ask the question there. If you're not a member, you can post to alt.music.lightfoot through Google groups. Derek (Telekidd) could probably give you some pointers.
While we're on the topic of guitars, does anybody know how to play the bridge in Restless? I don't need help with the fingerpicking, only the chord progressions. I have it close, but there's something not quite right. If anyone has chord diagrams, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I posted the riff for Restless a couple years ago. Look for my reply on "Calling All Pickers" posted 16 Oct 2000.

Hope that helps.
