Gordon Lightfoot, The Band, Tragically Hip Among Winners of Polaris Heritage Music Prize

The winners have been announced for the 2017 Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize which honors albums from the past.

A collaboration with the Polaris Prize, which names the best album by a Canadian artist for the previous year, the Heritage Prize honors albums from four time periods, 1960 to 1975, 1976 to 1985, 1986 to 1995 and 1996 to 2005.

Started two years ago, the prize transformed last year from one to two winners in each time period with one picked by a jury and one by a public vote.

Public - Let It Die - Feist
The honor for the Tragically Hip comes a week after their lead singer, Gord Downie, passed away after battling cancer.
