Hi Gord,

Nobody wants to kick you off. I have started my reply in the other topic with "You are a welcomed member of this discussion board".

Just a couple of thoughts:

.) If you make a copy of a CD you have purchased (for example put it on tape to listen to it in the car) that's perfectly fine.

.) If you make a copy of a CD and give (or even sell) it to somebody, you are violating copyrights. I have referred to this copyright violation using the term 'piracy'.

.) If you make and share illegal copies that's not my concern. You are responsible for what you are doing. I am not the speaker of the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). I too find some of their legal actions ridiculous.

.) Even if there are a zillion other 'thieves' out there, that still doesn't make things right.

.) I am not naive - I know that hundreds of thousands mp3's are just a click away.

.) Please understand that this is a moderated forum. I am the moderator of this board, and I try to do this job to my best abilities, which means that I feel compelled to edit any post that "is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law."

.) I assume that your posting was done with best intentions and was meant to be helpful to others.

.) I do not criticise you for sharing links to mp3's, I just kindly ask you to do it by other means than this Discussion Board.

.) Personally, I would rather see someone purchase one of Gordon Lightfoot's CDs than download an mp3.

Please do not leave - I am very interested in discussing this topic with you.
