i've also listened to this song a bit more since this thread came up. i love it as well. it has that feeling of sadness and happiness in it. that piano bit after "i hope you find your rainbows end" does it for me.

on a more technical note, is it safe to assume that he plays the slow part of the song with a capo on the 3rd fret and then as he cracks open the can (we need not go there again!), he takes the capo off and plays open strings?. i always do this and it sound really good. it depends on whether anyone's seen him do it live (if he ever has done it live!)
