We have a school delay ticker that scrolls across the bottom of the screen on our local TV station.
The only time they cancel school up here is when there is a severe weather alert, with snowfalls over 6 inches combined with high wind, or when the wind chill drops down to 45 below zero. Most of us have grown up in this climate and we learn ways to deal with it. The severe cold lasts for three weeks or so, and then it warms back up to zero or above. After a spell of 30 to 70 below wind chills, zero degrees feels quite balmy.
For instance, on Sunday it was 30 degrees. Everyone, including me, was running around in thin fleece jackets.
