Hi Watchman,
I'll answer for Cathy who actually typed in an answer and then managed to lose it before she could post it ... I'm sure that's happened to all of us at least once.
First, it was Cathy and Derek Kidd who performed. Derek has posted here a few times, but he posts mostly at the newsgroup. So he is the one singing DQ (and the other male vocals) and playing the great lead guitar on all the tracks. And remember that these two, like all of us, met on the Internet. They have played together a total of four times now, the first time being in May 2001 in Toronto in the jam sessions at the last "Massey convention". Every time I listen to them, I marvel at how two people who can still count the days that they have actually played together in person, can sound as if they have been performing as a duo for years. Derek lives in Palo Alto, CA - not exactly a stone's throw away.
And I don't have to tell you that I totally agree that Cathy is very talented. And I don't say that just because I'm her friend! That's a D-15 she is playing.
Saratoga is great; that's where my husband and I plan to retire. Everyone who visits loves it too. I will tell Doug (my son) that you likes his work too. It was a lot of fun to set up, and we bought recording equipment just for the occasion, but plan to use it many times in the future. We really are thrilled with how well the recordings came out. I have had compliments from a number of people far more experienced than I (or my son) on doing this, including a professional. (Actually, the sound card was a gift from the professional). So we had good equipment, a talented "first time" sound engineer, and a great performance.
I have the answer on dog training straight from Cathy. Here goes:
"I trained dogs at K-9 Command Dogs in Houston for a year and a half, mostly Dobermans and Shepards, for both obedience and protection. I changed professions because I was tired of getting chewed up. I have a master trainer's license from the state of Texas."
There is some sadness mixed in with that because Snoop, her beloved Doberman, passed away suddenly just last Sunday. It makes me feel even worse because, although Cathy and I have been good friends for two years, and she has visited me many times in CT and Saratoga, I have yet to journey up to Northern ME to visit her. Granted there is a bit more to do down here, but now I will never meet Snoop. Any of you who, like I, had or have a pet who is family can imagine just how she feels right now.
Remember, the next get together in Saratoga is the weekend of April 25th and 26th (concert the first night; party the second). Ed Mullen, another exceptionally talented "Lighthead", will again be performing with Cathy and Derek at Caffe Lena. I set up a web site for the "Lightfoot Tribute Band" for their performance at Caffe Lena last year, and I will be updating it for the upcoming Singer/Songwriter tribute. There are bios of the musicians. Here is the link for that:
