As far as last week's Town Hall show and Lightfoot's voice, well, I have been going to his shows since 1972. That was then and this is now and I'm just very happy to see him alive and well. At his age and with what he has been through the last few years, the show served as a testament to this man's will and fortitude. The performance reflected that benchmark of perfection he and his band have always been known for. It was a fine show and it was great to see him ambling across the stage once again.
I had a seat in the back of the house and thought the sound was fine for both sets. The maroons who did all the yelling must have thought they were at a rock show. As Lightfoot said, "this is an acoustic band". You have to listen.
As far as nailing a song, I would say "If you could read my mind" was close to pitch perfect.
Within a certain range, his voice has not changed.
For those of you who waited outside after the show to see Lightfoot and the band, they did not leave the building til 11:30. I'm glad I hung around. I had never met Lightfoot and thought this may be my last chance. I Walked up to him as he was walking out the door. As there were not many people around [there was a large crowd earlier] Lightfoot was very nice to me and quite accommodating. We talked for a moment and he then signed a 1972 photo of him and Dylan arm in arm. Yes, I came prepared. He seemed to enjoy seeing the picture and wrote a nice personalized inscription on the matting. He and the band also signed my Sundown album cover. As I told Rick Haynes, "Summer side of life" was my favorite, but the cover had coffee stains on it.
What a wonderful night!
