"78s" were records that were used from the 1930s until about the early 60s (very few in use by then); it had to do with the rpm (revolutions per minute) that the record made on the turntable--78s turned at 78 rpm, 45s (used for singles) at 45 rpms, and regular LPs ("long-playing" records, or albums) played at 33 1/3 rpms. Therefore, he enjoyed dancing all night to Old Dan's old 78 rpm records. Hope you enjoyed the history lesson.
