As an afterthought...

After you have installed IRC and completed steps 1-3, and you are using Internet Explorer as your browser...

click on this link --> irc://irc.efnet.net/gordon_lightfoot_chat

Mirc will open and a dialog like this :
http://djbry.temp.powweb.com/mirc6.jpg
will open up. Click on "OK". It will automatically connect you to the EFNET network and join the channel "#gordon_lightfoot_chat" ...

Also forgot to mention that a channel name may contain NO SPACES!
