Keith Richards to present at Walk of Fame

By BILL BRIOUX -- Toronto Sun

Keith Richards, Michael Douglas and Gordon Lightfoot will be among the presenters when the latest inductees are honoured June 6 in Toronto for Canada's Walk of Fame.

Richards will fly in from Paris, where the Rolling Stones are finishing up their latest album, to present honoree Michael Cohl, the Billboard and JUNO Award-winning concert promoter.

"Keith said yes right away," says Peter Soumalias, chair of Canada's Walk of Fame. The guitar God is old pals with Cohl and will be returning to Toronto later this summer anyway to rehearse his upcoming concert tour with the Stones.

Richards' bandmate Mick Jagger recently quipped to the Sun's Jane Stevenson that Cohl should be inducted into the "Masonic Hall of Fame. There is a Jewish branch, I think, up there."

In the past, the Stones have rehearsed at the Masonic Temple in Toronto, courtesy of Cohl.

Oscar-winner Douglas will present the Walk of Fame honour to Kiefer Sutherland. The two are currently in Toronto shooting the upcoming thriller The Sentinel. Lightfoot will do the honours for Daniel Lanois, who has produced classic albums for U2, Bob Dylan and Peter Gabriel.

The actual star unveilings will take place Sunday June 5 in Toronto and will be broadcast Monday June 6 at 7 p.m. on CTV. Tom Green hosts.

As in Hollywood, where the idea originated, Canada's Walk of Fame can be found underfoot (in the heart of Toronto's theatre district). That may eventually change if Soumalias has his way. A design competition is underway to relocate the stars to eye level.

As Soumalias points out, "It does snow on occasion in Canada."
