Renascent honors contributors with Peter Armstrong Community Award of Excellence
On June 8 Renascent honored 10 people who’ve made outstanding contributions to advancing the understanding of addiction as a treatable disease with the inauguration of the Peter Armstrong Community Award of Excellence. Recipients were recognized at Renascent’s annual Guardian Angel donor luncheon.
“The event is meant to honor those who’ve made inspirational contributions and changed the lives of others who may not have otherwise been able to access treatment,” said Dr. Patrick Smith, CEO of Renascent. “Recipients of the award volunteer their time and contribute to a greater understanding of addiction as a treatable disease.”
This year’s honored guests include Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot for his longstanding philanthropic support of Renascent, and Oliver and Sebastian Pigott for contributing their original song Walk you to the Water for Renascent’s anti-stigma campaign. Renascent also recognized Ellen Campbell, Teresa Kruze and Sanderson Layng for their innovative production of Living Clean Living Well call-in television show.
“I can speak for both my brother and myself when I say we are honored, humbled and thankful to receive the Peter Armstrong Community Award of Excellence,” said Oliver Pigott, one half of the Pigott Brothers. “Renascent provides an important service to people throughout the GTA and we are proud to be a part of their anti-stigma campaign.”
The Guardian Angel luncheon event was held in the Regency Room at Toronto’s Granite Club located on a beautiful 22 acre site on Bayview Avenue, bordering on the Don Valley.
