LAKE SUPERIOR, Mi (WPBN/WGTU)-- A U.S. Coast Guard crew paid tribute to the 29 crew members who lost their lives on the Edmund Fitzgerald.

While traveling across Lake Superior last week, the crew aboard the USCGC Hollyhock, a Coast Guard cutter, visited the site of the wreck of SS Edmund Fitzgerald.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was lost with her entire crew of 29 men on Lake Superior November 10, 1975, 17 miles northwest of Whitefish Point.

One by one, each crew member aboard Hollyhock tossed 29 roses into the water and held a moment of silence for the brave 29 mariners that were lost that stormy November night.
The estimated time the Fitzgerald sank is around 7:20-7:30 p.m. with reports of waves as high as 35 feet in Lake Superior.
