Default Meadowbrook July 31

Last Wednesday, I had the good fortune to attend the Gordon Lightfoot concert at Meadowbrook in Rochester Hills, Michigan with Anne P, who many of you know.

Meadowbrook is a typical summer music festival venue, with a covered pavilion that seats about 5,000 and room for seating on grass hills (2,000) behind. Unfortunately, the weather that night was not conducive to lawn seating. It drizzled steadily all afternoon and evening. A handful of diehards huddled under umbrellas on the lawn, but the pavilion was full.

During the show, Lightfoot thanked the crowd for coming out in such inclement weather and stated that the weather would not damper the quality of their show, and it didn’t.

The set list is as follows:

SWEET GUINEVERE
COTTON JENNY
SEA OF TRANQUILITY
NOW AND THEN
ALL THE LOVELY LADIES
NEVER TOO CLOSE
LET IT RIDE
SPANISH MOSS
SHADOWS
BEAUTIFUL
Band intro (Lightfoot prompted the band to stand and take a bow after Sundown and If You Could Read My Mind)
THE WATCHMAN’S GONE
THE WRECK OF THE EDMUND FITZGERALD
CAREFREE HIGHWAY

Intermission

RIBBON OF DARKNESS
SUNDOWN
HANGDOG HOTEL ROOM
RESTLESS
WILD STRAWBERRIES
I’D RATHER PRESS ON
A PAINTER PASSING THROUGH
WAITING FOR YOU
IF YOU COULD READ MY MIND
BABY STEP BACK
EARLY MORNING RAIN
RAINY DAY PEOPLE (very appropriate encore)
