I admit,I'm not as familar with his works as I'd like to be but i did hear his song "I'll Step Dowen" in the 1978 film "Who'll Stop The Rain" with Nick Nolte.

I used to confuse him with Tennessee Ernie Ford when I was little,not sure why.
