One thing cassettes worked for in the 70's & 80's. I would take my brand new Lightfoot album, and on the first play, record it on my Philco stereo cassette. That way I would have a cassette for my van. I also had the LP which would be kept in almost new condition in case something would happen to the tape so I could make another copy.
