This, I think, serves to illustrate that when an artist creates something and sends it out into the world, he or she has very little control over who will respond to it, or what those various responses will be.

Somehow I doubt that when Gordon was creating his masterpiece about the breakup of his marriage, he gave much thought to how it would be viewed by space aliens.
