Rick recalled as a young boy taken to Lightfoot concert in his hometown of Peterborough by his mum and going backstage afterwards to get an autograph on an album cover and being told that Mr. Lightfoot was not seeing anyone. His mum then declared to security that they were family and were then ushered into a room where a surprised but polite Lightfoot spoke with them for a few minutes and signed the albums! He made a lovely dedication to his beautiful wife Lise and then sang “Beautiful”

It seems like yesterday that I headed to Toronto and Hugh’s Room in February 2003 to see a bunch of unknown performers who dared to get onstage and perform my beloved Lightfoot tunes! Well after going all years but 2008 and seeing multiple shows each year I can safely say that these folks are GOOD! Lol DAMN GOOD! There have been times I’ve been brought to tears, other times I’ve laughed till I cried and other moments I’ve been left breathless. I’ve shared many wonderful meals and drinks with my daughter and some dear friends at Hugh’s, always trying to get others to come and see just what I carry on about! From many of the artists I have been treated with kindness and generosity and developed a lovely friendship with my 3 faves-Jory, Aengus and David. These 3 musical, multi-talented young men make me smile just thinking about them. Of course it goes without saying that I loved them at first for their respect and devotion to Lightfoot. Discovering their own musical abilities on their CD’s they have released over the years and seeing them in concert showcasing their songs has been a huge eye-opener for me and I simply adore all of them. Had it not been for my Lightfoot devotion I would have never encountered so many fantastic artists that have become such a joyous part of my life. I have so much admiration and respect for all who grace the stage to sing Lightfoot tunes and speak of their connections to the music of The Man. For the most part they all maintain their own successful musical careers, writing songs and performing across the country, venturing into the U.S., some traveling to Australia, the U.K. and Europe. Enjoy the video clips, check out their websites and videos and tour dates –
I am so happy I have my videos and only wish I had video of all of these shows I’ve attended since 2003. Jory is hoping to take the show on the road in 2012, perhaps a few stops in the U.S. – It’s going to be a huge undertaking and getting so many artists in the same spot for the Toronto shows was miracle enough! I so hope he can make his dream work and some of you can see what I have been so lucky to have in my backyard all these years.
Once again the celebration weekend was over much too fast. The time between them is too long even with the several Lightfoot concerts I can get to during the year. With the videos and pictures I’ve amassed over the years I can certainly escape back to Hugh’s any time I want but being there with friends is the best way to enjoy a night of Lightfoot music – whether it be at Hugh’s Room with a dozen or so awesome artists paying homage to Lightfoot or with The Man himself at Massey Hall, in Alberta, Buffalo, Peterborough, Montreal or any of the numerous places he might have on his tour schedule. Tag along with a friend…you’ll be glad you did.
