Default Re: Key Signatures of Lightfoot recordings

no disagreement here! re: the slight off-key, there's definitely a few songs that aren't exactly on key, but given GL's predilication for being in tune and on time, i expect that's because it was a take they LOVED and kept it.

agree too on the key variance. as a starting point, most music starts on its root or one of the key relationals (4 and 5 in rock and roll, could be 2,3,or 6 in jazz), so those give us clues, and i've tried to work through the song if the intro suggests a different starting point than the key it resolves too.

alas, i'm 22 years removed from formal music theory training and things are, well, rusty a bit ;-)

i called 14KG in minor just because it sounds that way to me. somewhere in the basement is a Shadows folio i think and i'll pull that out in a few weeks and check :-D

anyway thanks for the feedback.

i'll get the second part done, resolve the tweaks, then figure out where to put it in a nice format :-D

have a great rest of the weekend everyone!

they are due to:

- categorizing the fine line between a major key versus it's relative minor key ie. C vs Am or in most cases here, A vs F#m...for instance i don't think of 14K Gold as being in a minor key...but it's here nor there from my perspective

- GL's occasional speeding of of master tapes in the mastering process (or non A440 tunings) which has lead us to be off a semitone due to 'rounding'...i probably rounded up when i should have been rounding down...hope that makes sense

- the most common discrepancy is where you might have a song in A vs E...many times GL starts a tune on the 4 or 5 major chord in the rather than the root chord of the key in question...sometimes it's not until the chorus where we hear the root chord (and the key ID) kick in...i'll recheck a few of these but i did give it some good thought when i was making draft determinations...this last comment may have been even more fuzzy than the one above but i think you and a few other might follow my gist

looking forward to your part2...good luck with the renos
