In the last century, California has become the entertainment capital and people flock there with dreams of becoming rich and famous in show business, but just like in the gold rush days, many if not most of the young dreamers find out that its not that easy.
So the gold represents the hopes of those who come to California seeking their fortune, and the phrase, "All the gold in California is in a bank in the middle of Beverly Hills in somebody else's name," is a caveat to all the hopefuls out there,warning them while there is fortune in California, its controlled by someone else and it will not come easy, and odds are not at all, and you might just wind up with dashed hopes and broken dreams like the Gold miners of 1849.
