This is a classic. Amazing what turning the clock back a mere 34 years can do! Stone Cold Sober was a “new one”. I agree, it’s been a long, long time since Lightfoot told his sound man to turn it up, or since he told the audience to “leave the driving to us”. I admire the humble elder statesman of today who graciously accepts all the accolades. But I also miss the cavalier hotshot who knew he could say or do whatever he wanted, even though that guy could be insufferable at times.
To see him sit down at the piano again would really be something.
Like many of the folks here, I’m grateful to have seen more Lightfoot concerts than most folks would consider normal. In 1975, I was in grade eleven and still a couple of years away from seeing him for the first time.
Char is right about the corny jokes. It would have been a much shorter and much leaner career if he’d opted for standup comedy!
