I first heard drop D tuning with Gord's music. Someone asked earlier in the thread about artists who use open D tuning or Modal D, and the band Firefall came to mind - Larry Burnett, who wrote "Cinderella" and "Sad Ol' Love Song" uses that kind of tuning. Or at least the article I read about them explained that....
