Lightfoot plans three Texas shows in March
From Staff Reports • February 15, 2009 2:00 am
Buzz up! Veteran Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot will perform three times in Texas in early March, in back-to-back shows marking a rare southern foray.
His shows will be March 3 at the Bass Concert Hall at the Performing Arts Center at the University of Texas at Austin, March 4 at the Nokia Theater in Grand Prairie and March 5 at the Majestic Theater in San Antonio. All shows start at 8 p.m.
Lightfoot, now 70, started producing a string of eloquent musical poems, many epic masterpieces that have become enduring standards, from "If You Could Read My Mind," "Sundown" and "Early Morning Rain" to "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" and "Canadian Railroad Trilogy."
Artists who have recorded Lightfoot's songs range from Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Peter, Paul & Mary and Barbara Streisand to Jane's Addiction, Sarah McLachlan and Nanci Griffith.
Lightfoot almost died in 2002 from an acute abdominal aneurysm that left him in a coma for six weeks, but has now fully recovered and continues to tour occasionally with his core band of highly talented acoustic musicians.
Tickets to Lightfoot's March 3 show range from $35 to $55 and are available through the Web site
