For those looking for the Friday Night Chat, it seems that the domain name for
dilexnet.com has expired (May 26, 2008) and is pending deletion/renewal. As a result, there is no longer a chat room for those who would like to get to know their fellow Corfidians on a more personal level or discuss Lightfoot-related news/music.
While this situation is disappointing to those of us who often participate in the chats, it is one that can be rectified! It seems that there are a few choices:
* Find a new IRC host and set up a chatroom
* Set up a chatroom on an established host
* Set up an IRC server/host
As I see it, there are advantages and disadvantages for each option:
Finding a new IRC host would involve a bit of research and would operate in a similar manner to the method described on Sir John's
Gordon Lightfoot Chat Room page.
Setting up a chatroom on an already established host would also mean doing some research, but opens up the option of a web-based chat.
Setting up a server/host would cost money, take time and need someone "in the know" to administer it. (Not an option for most of us!)
Or...we could forget the whole thing and "chat" on Corfid. It's not quite the same, but may be the only option if no one is willing/able to pursue the chatroom setup.
Suggestions, opinions...?
