I've hit 2 deer in Michigan. $3500 to repair the damage to a minivan and $2900 to repair damage (last year) to my '96 Sunfire (I was surprised they didn't total it.) I did not have collision on either vehicle, but I do carry full comprehensive with no deductible. In Michigan, comprehensive covers deer damage...and we have about 40,000 car/deer accidents every year. Don't quote me on that number...I'm pulling it out of my 50 sumpin year old memory. Both times I left the scene and called the sheriff's dept to report it. Both times they looked at my vehicle somewhere other than the scene of the accident. My insurance rates did not increase.
