Forget the deer and damage for the moment and be thankful that you're safe.
I have no idea about (1) but it would seem that if you had no phone with you and nobody was hurt, leaving was the logical action and (2) probably depends on your insurance carrier's policy. The argument would be that you didn't do anything wrong, just as if a tree fell on your car. There was no negligence. (3) I probably would submit a police report but again if there is no evidence towards your negligence, I would think you'd be ok.
Just curious. What happened to the deer?
