Re: "The Last Time I saw Her Face"
A little confusion here. "The Last Time I Saw Her" is Gord's. See first verse:
The last time I saw her face, her eyes were bathed in starlight and her hair hung long
The last time she spoke to me, her lips were like the scented flowers inside a rain-drenched forest
But that was so long ago that I can scarcely feel the way I felt before
And if time could heal the wounds, I would tear the threads away that I might bleed some more.
"The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" is Ewan McColl's song for Peggy Seeger. See first verse:
The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave
To the night and the empty skies my love
To the night and the empty skies
The conflation is understandable; I've always thought they should be paired. Both are lovely, with McColl's a tender celebration of love found and Gord's a painful memory of love lost.
