Gordon unless you are in fact Duncan
Since posting that Gordon has sent me a private message that clarifies his question somewhat.
Firstly he in effect denies that he is the infamous Duncan (a.k.a. DMD3 etc).He does not believe the claim in fact but it seems that somebody in a chat room that he patronises is making the ridiculous claim that Lightfoot did not actually compose "Softly" despite I submit overwhelming evidence to the contrary and Gordon just wants to know the truth.Well all Right!!!
For starters the sheet music as contained in the "Playalong With The Record" book that matches the "The Way I Feel" album clearly attributes Softly to GL and after all these years I would have expected a genuine claimant to have taken some legal action.
In any case a google search for
"lightfoot softly sheet music"
produces well over 4000 web results the majority clearly implicating Gord as the songwriter
for example I checked out:-
http://www.musicnotes.com/sheetmusic...?ppn=MN0034489
installed their viewer and then found they required some money to actually see the sheet music on my monitor
No thanks I already have it in the book:-

no imageof the actual page today because my scanner is playing very silly buggers so I can't at this time scan the page which is clearly headed "by Gordon Lightfoot" with the footnote'-
copyright MCMLXVII (1967) by M.Witmark & sons
To sum up:-
Gordon who does the misinformed individual claim wrote Softly and what evidence can he conjure up to prove it??
John Fowles
Her shining lips in the shadows
Whisper goodbye at my window
