Hey Gord...a few years back we had to put down our family Alaskan Malamute. She'd been with us for 13 years and pre-dated the arrival of our son so she was really like our first "child." Unfortunately she became ill and it was truly in her best interest as well as ours to part with her humanely. We all cried our eyes out and vowed no more dogs for a time. My son wanted eventually to replace her with a German Shepherd and I preferred a Sheltie, so we knew there would be a tough decision to make in about a year or so. Then, out of the blue just a little over two months later, God provided us with a new best friend, a stray who sort of wandered into our lives and adoped us on the spot. We searched and searched for her owner and could never find anyone who claimed her. So she became ours and, coincidentally, she was a Siberian Husky, very similar to our former friend. She is still our best friend to this day and has succeeded in spoiling us all. So, you see, things happen in ways we don't always totally understand but they happen for the best and with reason. I'm sure you, too, will soon know that parting with your friend, while difficult, was for the best.
