This may or may not be what Gord's facing but gives you an idea of what a similar surgery involves. Since I'm no doctor, much less a reconstructive surgeon, take it with a grain of salt. As for the ileostomy, there are different kinds, some permanent, some temporary. Temporary ileostomies allow the remaining intestine a chance to rest and heal, and 'reconnection' takes place at a later date.
In any event, he's passed a number of hurdles so far and, God willing, will continue to do so through whatever comes his way. All we can do is send good vibes, encouraging notes, prayers and best wishes for him and his family.
