I'm going to be plenty busy learnin' to finger that new guitar that Santa is bringing. However, once I master the basics, I'll be back to check in for advice with Cathy and Val and some of the others of you who are prolific and accomplished Gord six-string impersonators.
Somewhere, Cathy yes. You couldn't pick a better person to learn from (pun intended). But I am NOT an accomplished guitar player. I am a rank beginner, and one with very little natural talent - or patience to practice regularly. I know a lot intellectually; Cathy has taught me a lot of picking patterns, and tried to teach me the basics of making it work. The shortcomings are mine. I have also learned a lot by participating in other guitar discussion groups, and reading about playing guitar. So I know the terms for everything, and can often explain just how to play a song or part of a song - but my fingers are about two years behind my brain! If I played every day - even just a little bit - I'm sure that I could actually play some of the songs passably, but I don't practice. I'm not proud of that!
Anyhow, enjoy that new guitar, post your questions, and do what I have not done - play a little bit every single day. I know it pays off; just haven't been able to prove it personally!
