Earlier in this topic I was mislead into welcoming TimmyB to this forum
but having found and read his review of Sunday's performance I realy feel like taking it back
I realise that I am not alone in anticipating getting pleasure from a Lightfoot rendition of a telephone directory but well!!!
The URL link that TimmyB provided opened up an unhelpful page of gibberish but by simply reentering
http://discussions.bluerodeo.com
I somehow succeeded in finding the relevant posting by Timmy B on the blue rodeo UBB discussion board
and immediately found a distressing posting by "our" (not really "our") Same Timmy B at:-
http://discussions.bluerodeo.com/eve...601#9151081601
although what I did read there was definitely gibberish
as posted allegedly by one Timmy B a resident of the fair city of Hamilton
Anyway Timmy B whoever you are or think you are
whilst everybody is entitled to their own opinion... BUT
yours is in view of many other approving reviews
misguided and misleading to anybody who did not have the good fortune to experience the occasion first-hand
in reflection of concerts in 1998 and 1999 you said:-
"the crowds were dead quiet. Also the volume of music on stage was far too quiet as well"
neither comment is true of the three 1999 concerts I attended at Massey
you continued regarding Sunday's concert:
"Nothing has changed and it has only gotten worse."
Not true again there was quite a bit of audience noise even if the average age was rather more mature than you might possibly be and the sound was largely nigh on perfect (to my old ears anyway)
"But if he can't make a ninety minute show (I feel it is the unwritten rule that a headliner must at least hit), he shouldn't
be performing headlining concerts yet"
"I just think he has lost it as a live performer."
Now hang on a bloody minute
As Char said "These were his FIRST shows back since he was ill"(in 2002 not 2001)
and he had to start somewhere and the plan to have the Good Brothers as a support act gave Gord the opportunity to get his
confidence back with a shorter show and reassure himself that that he could now do ANY concert let alone his customary marathon two hour standard stints. On that basis the 72 minute shows were just about right IMHO , and whilst I agree with Jimmy that I'd have preferred to hear other songs in place of TWOTEF on both nights it was obviously a challenge as he obviously wanted to be assured that he now had regained the stamina to sing
one or other of his extended songs. I would say quite unequivocally that all in all it was a most realistic demonstration of his ability to resume his lifelong vocation for entertaining those who truly appreciate him
so there! Put that in your
and smoke it
because Gordon can definitely still smoke it
