Have a look at Goldwave. I use it for direct recording as well as converting existing files and cleaning up LP tracks. Has lots of bells and whistles.

While dubbing LPs directly to CDs via a stand-alone is by far the easiest way to convert LPs it lacks the clean-up that you can get by going through a computer and some easy to get (and use)...
