Lenny Waronker

Professionally speaking, is Lenny Waronker the best thing that ever happened to Gord?

Could you be more specific?

Re: Lenny Waronker

nice choice... the Grossman era was a kick starter, as was the late 60's formation of EMP ... maybe Al Mair? "Mair would go on to manage Lightfoot for 8 years, from his first international hit “If You Could Read My Mind” to his last international hit “The Edmund Fitzgerald”, as well as set up his publishing companies" ... Barry, Bernie? I love the Lenny/Lee years, musically

Re: Lenny Waronker

I don't know about anyone but Fiedler-
He owned the Riverboat, paid Lightfoot big bucks to perform there back in the 60's where he performed his own tunes heard by others who would cover them and where he gained a following and confidence to realize his own songs were going to be his future.
. They remain friends and business associates to this day and on tickets for most Canadian concerts they say: BC Fiedler Presents.. (not Casino shows or benefits)

Re: Lenny Waronker

Lightfoot has said that for a song to be a hit it had to have a great melody, great vocal and a great arrangement. Waronker seems to be a very gifted producer that added the "great arrangements" to GL's hits.

Affair...
I was non-specific for a reason. Just wanted to see how people responded. I probably could ask the same thing about Tony Clarke and the Moody Blues, Paul Samwell-Smith and Cat Stevens, Tom Catalano and Neil Diamond, and quite possibly George Martin and the Beatles.

Re: Lenny Waronker

i probably misinterpreted 'professionally' ...but good discussion regardless

you can see who Gord thanks at the HOF induction ...ya know, Dylan intro

Gord, has said, he is/was foremost an arranger... I think his taste is wonderful

in many early songs, Red's licks were as recognizable as the melodies/lyrics

we have posted that interesting interview with Lenny on prior thread ... cheers, J

ps) yeah, Al Mair... Grossman, his sister, his mum ... Bernie, Barry, Anne
