Re: ROCKFORD,IL-May 24,2015
I've been having trouble posting here today, but I'll give it one more try...
Went to the show last night. Had a great time, as usual. Gordon and the band were in fine form... a solid performance I think. The venue is awesome. Had a very nice seat for the show... first row, far right side. A very polite crowd, much applause... well mannered as you might expect. My hearing isn't too good (to say the least), so I couldn't catch much of what Gord was saying between songs. But he was, I'd say, a bit more chatty with the audience, than usual. I think my only disappointment was that there was no encore. I did hear Gord mention, as he introduced the Trilogy, that this song has a "built in encore", so I'm guessing that that was his way of saying that's it. We stood for the standing ovation, Gord came out for a second bow, but that was it. Strange note here: Rick left his bass on the amp. In all my shows past, He left his bass when they were coming back out for the encore, then would unplug it himself and take it with him... this was my signal that the "show was over". But last night he left it, like as if coming back for the encore, but that was it! It was just different, that's all, not consistent with the normal, usual routine. I'm hoping someone chimes in with a set list. I'm terrible when it comes to stuff like that. My photos from the show are horrible, and not worthy of posting, but I'm hoping someone may have some. All in all, a very good show, and Thanks to Rick for sharing the photos of the Coronado! |
Re: ROCKFORD,IL-May 24,2015
Gord didn't come out until about 7:35, late for him and the band.
1. Now and Then (one of the best songs on the 'Cold On The Shoulder' album) 2. Waiting For You 3. Drifters 4. Don Quixote (before the song, Gord tuned a little / he said to the audience "I like to get mesmerized." 5. Minstrel Of The Dawn 6. Rainy Day People 7. Shadows (introduced the band members - Gord introduced them as professional musicians that tour with him - "I always give them plenty of notice".) 8. Let It Ride 9. Much To My Surprise (before the song Gordon said, "Here's another one we brought out of the catalog. It almost borders on melodrama. I don't know how I ever wrote this song. It's called ......what's this song called???!!! (to the band). Much To My Surprise.") 10. Carefree Highway 11. Cotton Jenny 12. Ribbon Of Darkness 13. Sundown (intermission) 14. "A song I wrote in 1991. It's dedicated to those who served and those who are serving." Drink Yer Glasses Empty 15. Sweet Guinevere 16. Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald 17. Never Too Close 18. Beautiful 19. I'd Rather Press On 20. If You Could Read My Mind (Kevin Hester and my wife and I and a few others tried to get a standing ovation going, but no dice.) 21. Restless 22. Baby Step Back 23. (before the song Gordon said, "I wrote this song for a television special in 1967. That's how I got stuck with this capo, this damn capo." He ran through the chord progressions, looked at the audience and said, "I don't know.", which got an audience chuckle. I yelled out "Go for it!" Gord went on, "First there was 'rain', then there was 'trilogy'. This is 'trilogy'." Canadian Railroad Trilogy Peter Bro 10 is correct - no encore. Gordon did mention that "this song has the encore built-in." But, did mention that if we wanted one that they would probably do one. After Gordon's second bow, the house lights immediately came up. Someone besides Gordon or the band must have been in a hurry last night. All in all, a great show. May go again in November to Carmel, IN. |
