Cricketer dies after being hit by rising ball

A 25-year-old Australian cricketer, Phil Hughes, had his life support turned off two days after being hit behind the ear by a "bouncer" while batting at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He collapsed on the pitch, swallowed his tongue, had mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, CPR and emergency brain surgery, but never recovered consciousness. It was a freak accident, or a normal part of the game which (for the first time in many decades, if ever) had freak and tragic consequences. It has brought an outpouring of grief in Australia and sent shockwaves around the world, especially in cricket-playing nations like England, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the West Indies and New Zealand. |

You are right Charlene, I think we should also spare a thought for the bowler, Sean Abbott, he must feel absolutely awful.
