I hope that Gord's cold is better today
Out in the open should be good for it Here is a link to a report on his concert there in 2000 as recalled by Derek (Zippo) Kidd (who is now in Oregon) https://groups.google.com/forum/mess...A/ZcVTIeqgxlIJ |

So glad Gord was feeling well enough to do the show last night. Humphrey's is such a great venue. Wish I'd been there. I've got 2 friends who were there and am hoping to receive a report from them soon. We saw him there in Oct., 2001. Many of the rooms (including the one we had) at the resort have patios and balconies that open onto the concert area and we were able to watch the show from our patio, even though we'd bought tickets! I'll never forget that, during sound check (which was also viewable from our patio), they started "Ringneck Loon" and, just as they went into the chorus, about 10 ducks waddled into the concert seating area from the nearby pond. Terry exclaimed, "Look!" and all the guys got a big kick out of it. It was great. :)

Re: SAN DIEGO-Humphrey's By The Bay-Sept.26,2014
Just back from Humphreys and an evening with Gord and the gang.
We had the hotel/dinner package (my wife's birthday gift to me) and were worried that Gord might not make it after cancelling the night before, so when sound check began we were ecstatic. Gord entered promptly at 8:00 as always and from our 3rd row seats we were greeted by "The Watchman's Gone" to lead things off. His voice was a bit more gravelly than usual but as the evening wore on it grew stronger. He mentioned his illness as having "picked up a weird strain of something in Colorado", which brought laughter from the masses as the pot reference was not lost on this Southern California crowd. He was in good spirits and said that he'd received some antibiotics, and was feeling really good. It was my first time seeing Carter play and he clearly enjoys his role. He knows when to ease up and when to let go, and was quite animated at times. He fits in very well and makes it look effortless. The highlight of the night for me was when Gord opened up the second half with "DYGE" with Mike. A very moving performance and received quite an ovation. IYCRMM, Restless and Drifters also stood out, but the whole show was amazing and went by too quickly. Bob Woolcock had procured two backstage passes courtesy of Rick, but he became ill at intermission and had to leave, so Lenny and I stayed after for the meet and greet. Gord was very cordial, and even signed my guitar strap for me, though they were rushing us through as he was undoubtedly tired. Overall, a great night and I'm glad we had the opportunity again to see the legend in person. Brian Sorry, but I don't know how to post the videos directly. |
