10 things Canada does better than anywhere else
Click on link for the other 10: Canada has more lakes than any other country -- about 3 million.
The province of Ontario alone contains about a third of the world's freshwater, spread over 250,000 lakes. No surprise that "heading up to the lake" is more than just a favorite national phrase. It's Canada's sacred version of lighting out for the territory -- but with cottages furnished with Muskoka chairs, Kevlar canoes and competing Gordon Lightfoot and loon mating call soundtracks. http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/15/travel...etter/Recently, Ontario's prime lake district, Muskoka, got the nod from National Geographic Traveler as the top summer destination -- in the world. Well, yeah, eh? It's beauty up there. |

Seems that as the glaciers receded so many eons ago, they saved their most severe carving out farther north, closer to the north pole. Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin benefited from that, but the land that would become Ontario really won out. I have a place in southwest MI at a lake that's about 14,000 years old, I would assume the Ontario lakes are a bit younger. Very cool stuff.
