Remembering The Fitz and crew- Nov.10-1975

NOvember is a deadly month for shipwrecks on the great lakes -

The 38th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald and It is also the 100th anniversary of the 1913 sinkings between NOv.7-10,1913. -
and Nov.13 (1965) is The anniversary of the sinking of The Yarmouth Castle - sinking off the coast of FLorida between Miami and the Bahamas on Nov.13, 1965. The ship caught fire and 90 people died...another spellbinding tribute from the pen of Gordon Lightfoot.
search youtube/google for the song -

Ed Ringwald (Pee Wee) says on his FB page today -
Today, November 10th. 1975, marks the Anniversary of the sinking of The Edmund Fitzgerald....Here's a video clip we did live from Soundstage in Chicago with Gord and my musical family so many years ago.....Remember going into the studio and cutting the song after Gord read an article in Newsweek....it was a magical moment in the studio....Terry Clements and myself came up with the haunting steel and guitar parts...Rick Dutkiewicz Haynes and Barry Keane laid down a solid beat and Gord, his rhythmic 12 string guitar....I believe they used the first take and it went on to be one of Gord's biggest hits.....on a side note, I brought in a little Fender Princeton amp that had a hole in the speaker.....that was the haunting distorted sound that was on the record....a beautiful tribute to the families of the 29 that lost there lives that November day......

SS Edmund Fitzgerald

Thirty eight years since the sinking of the Fitzgerald.

Hard to believe it's been that long. Always a very sad thought losing twenty nine sailors in such a cruel manner.

"Superior they said never gives up her dead" as Gord phrases it as only he can do.

Time to crank up the B45 and knock out that tune as has been the tradition with me on this anniversary day.

Rare video and audio of Fitzgerald Crew and ship

The legend lives on....

Here is a rare video of the good ship and crew.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tf7Z8ZWgAMk#t=46

This tribute has some great photos too of the crew and undersea images of the wreck.

Here is a haunting audio of the Coast Guard and the SS Arthur M Anderson who was the last ship to have the Fitz on radar... Think about this when you listen, since it's live at the time, one can just imagine the Fitzgerald settling on the floor or Lake Superior... Disturbing for sure. Can't imagine that moment.
