Gordon Lightfoot Tribute
 

Yes, it's happening this coming Saturday, September the 21st at the Lake Simcoe Arms Restaurant on the shores of beautiful Lake Simcoe. Very close to Orillia, Ontario, the hometown of Gordon Lightfoot.

The band is made up of John Stinson on vocal, six and twelve string guitars, Kenyon Wallace on lead guitar. (Hey Kenyon, we'll want a song or two from you as well). Scott Williamson on bass and Jimmy Jones on keyboard.

Now, this is one show I don't want to miss!

Marian from the Mountains and I will be there.

Talk about living in the light of the bright silvery moon.

Doesn't get much better than this.

Yes, it did happen and as expected it was a show once again that brought out those great sounds similar to the ones heard at the Massey Hall concerts during the early years of the Gordon Lightfoot Massey Hall concerts.

This is a well seasoned Gordon Lightfoot Tribute band that knows exactly how to make those tunes work.

John came through with his ever sounding Lightfoot voice and delivered all the great Gord songs we so love.

And of course with the band being right on with "Gord's chords" the audience was most appreciative, some even up dancing.

It's always a great feeling connecting with these folks, re-kindling previous events and just enjoying each others company.

It was a great setting for a dinner and show in that beautiful part of Ontario cottage country.

Gotta do that more often!

We look forward to future gigs for the Lightfoot Tribute Band.

hi Ron, it was terrific seeing you guys (you both looked sharp!) and Terry's best friend, Johann and other musicians like Scott's colleague, Al. Cosy venue, eh...

One fella at the Orillia festival said "I loved it all, I don't recall Gordon playing right in the streets of this town... you were immersed, passersby and all"

17 songs in 60 minutes ...quite a barrage...Mariposa market, patios bustling

the culture organizer folks said "we weren't quite expecting THAT! Who are you?"

i wasn't sure what to expect either, but getting the call mid summer, then making the trek and quickly setting up in 15 minutes, and suddenly playing Gord's hometown, well, ranks way up there in my musical journal...what fans

btw, as we try carry the Gord torch, I carried the Sam the Record Man one:cool:

would need roofrack, lol...but ya, would have been a great chance to catchup

i (try) zoom across 401 to 407 to 400 to 11 and it still takes 2 hours to Orillia

wife and kid were disappointed there was no room for them to come along

so i grabbed camera and handed it to one of the sis's who lives there ..voila:cool:

Hey guys.

You are most definitely carrying the torch and to a whole new level.

You look great on stage and you're certainly not short on talent when it comes to delivering those great Gord tunes.

It sure was a special day in Orillia and had I not been booked to play Gord tunes in another part of the Province we could have collected our Charbelle and made the trek to Gordtown.

Never rains but it pours eh? Feast or a famine!

Gotta get me a "Sam" shirt!

hey char, maybe this thread (and Orillia Culture and Tony Rice should be moved to Covers?) ... there's lots of new Gord info and that stuff should stay at the top... be different if it was a ghost town herel;)

Hey guys.

I have to commend you on this classic photo. It just grabbed me in a way that sent me scrambling into my collection of Gord's songbooks where I discovered two images of Gord together with his crew.

Some cool resemblences there!

Sorry I don't have the know how to put them up here for view but one is from the "Shadows" album and the other from the "Salute" album.

If my son Liam drops by this weekend I'll get him to help get them up for view.

I really should go and take a seniors computer course!

i was just listening back to a tribute jam about 5 years ago with you on cool bass for cotton jenny, sundown, SFAWN! ... we still forget to bring sleigh bells to the gigs!

hey, you're doing fine, Ron... that'll be interesting to see... weren't trying to resemble anything (you cant tell that from our guy's stage positioning too:)) but considered crossing Mississaga St. in Abbey Road stride...we couldnt find a striped crosswalk, and besides, too dangerous with those high speed scooters on the streets, on the sidewalks... and on the curbs

cool, TG ... lots of cheap local talents in that area and catering to 20 and 30somethings... they are the ones tossing back the shooters ...GL has wide appeal but a certain demographic of live event goers it seems... i mean there are about 5 Canadians here at corfid...but a quality 5 :)

we've been quite spoiled playing to some quality GL audiences lately ...dont want to land spot that wants top40..20 somethings might (not) get Restless!

That's true ... I was going to suggest legions and such, but people there was to drink and dance, as with most establishments serving alcohol. Trying to think of spots that might take a "sit down" crowd. Something like Hugh's Room.
