Memories of Meeting Gord and the Band
4 Attachment(s)
Hi all. I recently started a public facebook page chronicling my life before and after weight loss surgery. One of the photo albums I created for it is called "A Tale of the T-shirt" Quite a few of you are on my personal facebook page so you've seen it. But for those who havent I thought it would be nice to post some of the pics here since it has to do with GL.
I was lucky and privilieged enough to be able to go back stage after his concerts several times in the late 90s and the early 2000s. One of the best memories was of Massey Hall 2001 when I went backstage after the concerts and got to meet him before the shows along with several other Lightheads who'd traveled to Toronto to see the shows. I'll always have great memories of meeting Gord and the band. Gord and Terry were particularly kind to me and I can truly say that every time I got to see them and talk to them was a special occasion. It was especially meaningful because being so heavy at the time made me feel like a complete outcast in so many situations. It was nice to feel like I belonged. After I had bypass and lost the weight, I discovered my Lightfoot Massey Hall convention T shirt hanging in my closet. I tried it on and the difference was so astounding I created a photo album for it on my page. It was always my dream to meet Gord and the band again and take a picture with them again so I could have photos with them that I'm proud of. Sadly that wont happen with Terry, but hopefully some day I'll get a chance to say hello and get a snapshot with Gord. He's met so many people over the years, I wonder if he'd even remember or recognize me. The page and everything on it is public so if you have facebook you can view it even if you aren't on my personal page. For those who don't have Facebook I've posted a few pictures here. If you want to see the entire page PM me and I'll send you a link. |

Hey Erk - Gord should be heading to Florida sometime in 2013 so watch for the dates to be posted.
Yay for you and your successful journey since 2001! And now you're back at school..I'm sure you'll be an A+ student! Good luck Erk! |

Re: Memories of Meeting Gord and the Band
My family of 5 has met Gord and the guys many times over the years since Oct. 15, 1999.
Still remember the date. My three kids have literally grown up meeting Gord and band(I think they have 6 times / my wife and I 14). It really does not get old. I am going to try to get all my albums signed (usually one each time). Barry Keane actually remembers our last name when we do meet them. Gord is always gracious to his fans during the "afterglow". Got my Peoria tickets on the way !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kelly Davis |

Re: Memories of Meeting Gord and the Band
A good amount of longtime Corfid members &
GL fans here know of my experiences meeting Gordon and the guys. I'll descibe my 4 times as briefly as possible. 8/6/2002 - My first GL show ever at (formerly) Dodge Theatre in Phoenix. I didn't know how easy it would be to get to meet them. Other concerts by other acts? The answer was always NO. ...but they annonunced a meet & greet would happen after the show,so I grabbed a concert hall poster & borrowed a pen from somebody! After his show though,I saw him and the band emerge outside, from the west stage entrance and almost couldn't believe this was happening! At that moment he became the most famous person I'd ever met. He & the guys signed the poster and Gordon signed my ticket. I only recall telling him I heard Sundown when I was 6 but I know I shook his hand. I then hopped on the very last bus back to my apt. that night! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1/28/2007 - This time,I was ready! As people here know,I posted a topic "Sit Down Young Border & Tell Us What You've Seen" (now archived @ wayback.com) where I posted my photos from that night and told the story of the show & meeting them again. I got a camera & brought 8 albums for him to sign. A somewhat cold night, only a dozen people were outside the Orpheum (Phx. also). I once again got to converse with him about music, got pic's of Me with Gordon and one with Terry and other pic's. I only went for Gordon's signature this time but Barry said because of his hand,I could only pick 2 albums. A no brainer there, "Sit Down Young Stranger" and "Early Lightfoot" got Gord's name on them. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ October 18th,2008 Agoura Hills, CA @ Canyon Club (Los Angeles) & October 19th,2008 San Diego, CA @ Humphrey's Concerts By The Bay On the morning of the 18th,for the first time in my life,I actually borded an airplane! Thanks to some wonderful Corfidian's efforts,I flew from Phoenix to LAX & had a great weekend and experience I'll never forget. The first show,I was sitting a mere 6 to 8 ft. from Gordon (it's a dinner club). Got to do the meet & greet again and had my picture taken by a Corfid member and they sent it to my email. (It's still there and I have a printout of it). We talked for a few minutes but others were waiting. Didn't really talk to the band that time. Finally,is San Diego (first time back there since 1990!) That wasn't so much about the meet & greet afterwards,as it was about the unexplainable beauty of hearing a concert lie Gordon's,in an outdoor setting. Not to mention by the Pacific ocean on a cool October night. ,very cool. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- One thing I learned after the 4th time. Gordon is my favorite male singer of all time and meeting him the first two times was quite an experience. The third time was great too and by the fourth,it becomes a very familiar experience. Once you've met your #1 favorite singer, actor or whomeverf, you may admire that is famous, the original "WOW!" is replaced by "Hey,good to see you again". (If you meet them more than once. That's a good thing though,it just means that person and you,are both human and they're not some idyllic image that you may have had before. ;) |
