It was Melbourne's biggest quake since 1903 and I understand it was Australia's biggest since the fatal one in Newcastle, New South Wales in the 1980s. |

we felt it in preston.... thought it was the washing machine on spin cycle!

My first thought was that a possum (a record-size one) had got in under the roof and was running just above the ceiling!
Maybe it's not such a rare event in North America. One day after our drama, I heard quakes hit Alaska and Washington State. |
