Liona Boyd-Lightfoot connection

Re: Liona Boyd-Lightfoot connection
I have a special place in my heart for Liona and her music. When I saw Gord in concert for the first time, in 1978, Liona was the opening act. I was mesmerized by her guitar work. I already played guitar by then, but wasn't very good. I watched Liona, thinking, "holy moly, I could never do THAT!" (and I still can't!) She was incredible.
There were two shows that night, and I had bought tickets for both of them. Between shows, I got to meet Gord for the first time. I'll never forget that. And I got to meet Liona, too. A great night. I would love to see Liona again. I'll have to check her site and see if she ever gets down to Texas. Melissa |

I'm sure I saw her @ Massey back then but have no pics..(back then an ex-b.f. and I shared our camera..lol)
I remember her gowns and how ethereal she seemed. Of course she was in the news up here a lot for her relationship with our Prime Minister (Pierre Trudeau) after his marriage ended in 1977... Liona has a new website - http://www.classicalguitar.com/ She's a lovely lady, with a terrific sense of humour. The exposure she got on tour with Lightfoot in the huge arenas he played back then gave her career an incalculable boost. She has told me he was her mentor and launched her career. It's nice that they have remained friends.. I've yet to get to one of her concerts around here. She sings now and has a partner onstage. |
