Genius
I really like using the genius feature on itunes. If you are not familiar with it, you pick a song, and using your library, it will automatically build a playlist with songs of similar genre and other qualities. For example, with Sit Down Young Stranger, the next four songs I hear played are:
The Great Mandella-Peter, Paul, and Mary The Way I Feel-Cowboy Junkies(Interesting that a cover appears on the list) Tecumseh Valley-Nanci Griffith (Though I do have the original by Townes Van Zandt in my library) Rocky Mountain Suite-John Denver Some of the other artists that appear in the same playlist are Harry Chapin, Ian Tyson, John Prine, both Woody and Arlo Guthrie, and Mary Chapin Carpenter among others. The next song by GL is Pony Man which is #8. Are there others of you who use this and what results do you get with Gordon's songs. |
Re: Genius
Can't comment on Genius, but Pandora is great for just about the same thing.
Except it doesn't rely on what's in your library, they provide the library. At first they added way to much Jim Croce, but you can dial it down. If you have a halfway decent internet connection (1.5mb/s) the quality is easily CD level. How's the quality on Genius? |
Re: Genius
Yes, I use Pandora as well. Good way to find out about artists that I'm not familiar with. I like Genius in that it is stuff in my collection that maybe I don't listen too as often so it gives me a chance to rediscover why I purchased something in the first place. As for the quality, it is a feature of itunes so it's playing mp3 or aac files off the hard drive. Both Pandora and iTunes sound great on my stereo.
