By AMANDA CUDA Some environmentally-conscious stars went from red carpet to green on Friday night for the David Suzuki Foundation. A fundraising gala was held that night to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the foundation and to introduce Force of Nature, a documentary that gives a personal look into the life and journey of David Suzuki. Sturla Gunnarsson, the film’s director, laughed as he remembered the fishing trips that he and Suzuki went on while making the movie. In the spirit of the foundation, sustainable and eco-friendly sources of power were chosen to, literally, light up the night, while guests feasted on a specialty organic and local menu prepared by chef Susur Lee, a big advocate of locally produced food. Television personalities George Stroumboulopoulos and Colin Mochrie both said that they grew up watching Suzuki’s The Nature of Things. “I remember being a teenager and watching this crazy man talk about what we were doing to the world. And then, as the years go by, you go ‘Oh yes. That’s a very intelligent man and what he was saying was true,’” said Mochrie. Gordon Lightfoot has been a supporter of Suzuki since he was asked to play Stein River Festival in B.C. back in 1989. Lightfoot looks at what the foundation has accomplished as an indicator of what the next 20 years will bring. “If there is hope for humanity,” he said, “let’s hope they can carry on.” |

Re: David Suzuki event - Lightfoot attends - picture
perhaps Haynes could loan him a rubber band to tie it back...might suit him
at Gord's weight and with those hair wings, we might lose him one windy day |
