Lightfoot! Review
Hi guys,
Sorry for the shameless self- promotion but I've started to review and write about some of the music I really like. One of the first reviews I've written is of Gord's debut. I hope to include all of his other albums bit by bit as I go along. Please have a read! http://midnight-rocks.blogspot.com/ |
Re: Lightfoot! Review
Since not one of the 21 so far viewers of your blog have bothered to comment a fate that has afflicted many of my recent threads too so welcome to the club (sdYS)
I for one enjoyed your fine attempt to describe the magnificence of Gord's maiden album, I have previously said that back in early 1967 I was in the habit of buying vinyl on spec on the strengyh of hearing just one track, In this case "The First Time Ever" was by a long way not the only gem that I found on the album for the complete transcribed liner notes of Lightfoot! (both the original Candian release and the later UK release thas was confusingly retitled "Early Lightfoot" see:- http://www.corfid.com/vbb/showpost.p...35&postcount=1 |

i haven't digested your thoughts on the albums you've reviewed yet but thought you might like to read Wayne's and others thoughts also in case you hadn't.... http://www.lightfoot.ca/lightrev.htm Wayne has reviews of all the albums but you may want to wait to read them til you've completed your quest, so that you are not influenced in any way,,,i look forward to your thoughts on many of GL's works...my fave part of these forums is when folks are talking about the recordings and compositions in the catalogue...on the other hand, there is usually no shortage of lyric talk here:) |
Re: Lightfoot! Review
I noticed you wrote :
"The 14 tracks on Lightfoot! are made up of 11 covers and three originals." I believe it's vice-versa : 3 covers and 11 originals. |
Re: Lightfoot! Review
a minor note: (rm's strikes more of a major chord)
GL covered The First Time but wrote The Last Time... i read the review, nice work...much said about the times, not too deep into the music itself...i am still pondering the 'old fashioned feel' phrase well, i couldn't speak of this album without an honourable mention to Peaceful Waters...it struck a chord with me at a tender age when I was immersed amongst many angry folk...the phrases and delivery were, and still are, therapeutic and self fulfilling ...Within my heart there lies a spring where love and peace abide And from that spring there flows a river fine through all the countryside But few have drunk therein and why I do not know... an the other hand, within my own mind there lies much idiotic wit, but still.... |
Re: Lightfoot! Review
Thanks a lot for the feedback and thanks for the comments on the sloppy mistakes I made like saying 3 originals and 11 covers where the whole point of the review was how strong the originals were!
Also I mixed up The First Time and The Last Time. I'm sure the latter inspired the former, thanks again! |
