Warner/Reprise Recordings Being Reissued???

In attempting to replace my damaged EOM CD, I stumbled across the following on Barnes & Noble's website.

It shows that on May 18 of 2010, a company called WOUNDED BIRD RECORDS will be re-issuing Gordon Lightfoot's Warner Brothers/Reprise albums on CD, and that they are taking orders in advance for them.

I'm guessing that this is similar to what Rhino does, but since I've never heard of this company, my question to all of you nice folks is "does anyone know anything about them?" I'm curious as to how good the quality of these CD's will be and if they will be including the original album artwork on the re-issue.

Has anyone out there bought music from this company before and if so, were you satisfied with it?

If these are made from the master recording, it could be a great opportunity for fans who missed out on purchasing certain discs the first time around, or who are in the unfortunate position of trying to replace one that is damaged, like myself.

Any thoughts?

Wounded Bird has reissued most of Shawn Phillips' catalog.
He's a great overlooked singer/songwriter from 70's and 80's.
(Anyone here into his stuff?)
I have 6 of these CDs and the sound quality is excellent.
I would think they would do a similar top notch job with Gord.

Thank you Char and Wheels for the info. I'll probably go ahead and purchase the disc through them when it becomes available on the 18th.

An interesting aside -- in Char's post, it mentions that this company no longer ships merchandise outside of the U.S. Doesn't it seem odd that Wounded Bird Records will not be shipping a Canadian performer's music to Canada?

Does anyone know if the 1975 version of "Affair on 8th Avenue" will be on the re-released "Gord's Gold?"

Hey Redhead:
It took me some digging, but I found a copy of East of
Midnight on the Warner Bros.label.Follow this link:www.amazon.com
Ignore where it says,'this title has been discontined by the manufacter',and click where it says "3 new and 7 used".It then takes you to a listing of other sellers.Just follow the links.Hope this helps.

Re: Warner/Reprise Recordings Being Reissued???

Patybear -- thank you for your help. It turns out that this may be my only option because upon further investigation, Wounded Bird Records will not be re-issuing EOM on May 18, but will be re-issuing just about everything else, i.e., A Painter Passing Through, Cold on the Shoulder, Don Quixote, Dream Street Rose, Endless Wire, Old Dan's Records, Salute, Shadows, Sit Down Young Stranger, Summer Side of Life, Summertime Dream, Sundown and Waiting For You.

So in answer to your question seafarer62, it doesn't appear as if the 1975 version of Affair on 8th Avenue is going to be released anytime soon, as Gord's Gold wasn't on the list either.

FYI Here is a posting by John H on a forum at:-

"Post subject: [2010-06-08] Gordon Lightfoot reissues of Reprise/Warner Bros. albums (Wounded Bird)

I emailed Wounded Bird, asking if the Lightfoot CDs would be straight reissues or remasters and, if remastered, would original master tapes be used.. Here is the complete reply:

"WEA does not let the master tapes out of their possession.
They make a DAT copy and we master from that.
As far as being remastered, there is no strict definition of the term remastered,
so it depends on your definition of the term.

Re: Warner/Reprise Recordings Being Reissued???

Sir John: I also sent an email to Wounded Bird Records regarding the sound quality of the cd's being offered, and whether or not they rate on par with the Warner/Reprise reissues. I also inquired about the future availability of EOM, and their response to me was as follows:

"We don't have the rights for East Of Midnight.

The CDs are available now, through our web site.

Haven't heard the original WB CDs, so cannot do a comparison.

Wounded Bird Records"

I found it interesting that they "sidestepped" answering my question regarding the sound quality, but what's even more interesting is that they don't own the rights to EOM. I wonder, why not this one? It's the only Warner/Reprise original album (other than Gord's Gold which is compilation) that isn't being offered.

(BTW, I've since been able to obtain a copy of EOM to replace my damaged one -- thank you Patybear)
