Autographed Lightfoot guitar to be auctioned Gordon Lightfoot will leave behind more than just a grateful audience when he performs two benefit concerts on Nov. 14 and 15 at the Orillia Opera House in support of Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital and the Opera House. Lightfoot has agreed to autograph a Martin D-18 guitar following his Saturday performance which will be auctioned off on eBay by the OSMH Foundation to raise money for the hospital. The online auction will begin on Monday, Nov. 16, at 7 p. m. at www.ebay.com. The guitar, which is the same model that Lightfoot has played for several years, has a suggested retail value of $2,599 (U. S.) and was generously donated by the Martin Guitar Company and Gilbert Guitars in Orillia. "We're extremely grateful to Gilbert Guitars, the Martin Guitar Company and to Gordon Lightfoot for making this possible," said Nicole McCahon, executive director of the OSMH Foundation. "With Gordon's signature, this instrument will become a valuable keepsake and we want to give all his fans the opportunity to bid on it." "It is a truly unique opportunity to own a high-quality instrument with the autograph of a Canadian music legend," explained Jeff Gilbert, of Gilbert Guitars in Orillia. "There is a large contingent of Lightfoot fans and guitar collectors around the world who would love to get their hands on a Gordon Lightfoot-autographed guitar. I suspect it will be a very popular auction item and raise some valuable dollars for the hospital." It's not the first time that the Martin Guitar Company and Gordon Lightfoot have teamed up for a good cause. In 2000, Martin unveiled a limited edition signature model D-18GL guitar in honour of Lightfoot and his hit song The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Only 61 were produced at the time, in honour of Lightfoot's age, and all 61 were snapped up fairly quickly. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the guitars went toward the Gordon Lightfoot Scholarship Fund at the Great Lakes Maritime Academy. |

Re: Autographed Lightfoot guitar to be auctioned
This is great. I'd love to be the highest bid in that auction.
And if someone could talk Gord into playing the encore at that show with that guitar the bids might even be higher. It is a D-18, not like it would be foreign to him. |
