Re: any collectors of LP's (albums) of lightfoot?
I don't know what the value is on them anymore, except for the artwork. I used to collect them 10-15 years ago. You mentioned SIT DOWN YOUNG STRANGER, that's one I think I have the most versions of - I have three copies of the first version, where the cover had nothing but the reprise logo and catalog number in the top corner, no artist or album title on the front, only on the back/spine. One of them has the early W7/Reprise logo on the two-color record label. Another is a white-label promo, and the other is the normal tan Reprise label, I think it's a Canadian pressing. Then I have a copy of it with SDYS/GL on the cover. Then I have another with IYCRMM on the cover, but SDYS on the spine. Then one with IYCRMM everywhere. None of them are sealed/unplayed though.
I've got several other sealed LPs of other GL titles. Then there's the MFSL version of SUNDOWN, got that, as well as a no-label test-pressing of it. And then quadraphonic LP versions of SUNDOWN and COTS... and the Q8 8-track versions. And there's the mono versions of I think the first three UA albums, I have two of them - plus the re-releases of the UA albums, as well as all the various collections issued by various companies of his UA catalog. I think I had about 76 different GL LPs last time I counted. Plus a stack of 45s. Have a great time at the show! -Andy |
Re: any collectors of LP's (albums) of lightfoot?
Well my collection of albums is a little simpler :
Early Lightfoot (which he autographed for me!) :) Lightfoot - 1966 The Way I Feel - 1967 Did She Mention My Name? - 1968 Back Here On Earth - 1968 ( These 4 UA's are in great shape! Got 'em for $1 each! Sunday Concert - 1969 (Got it at a Goodwill, not as good a shape). Best Of Gordon Lightfoot - 1969 The original UA best of collection, before the flood of 'em! Sit Down Young Stranger (Autographed by him also) Same picture as IYCRMM. Summer Side Of Life - Good shape Don Quixote - Awesome condition. Old Dan's Records - Pretty good both vinyl & cover wise. Slight ring on the back. Sundown - A regular LP,great shape. Quadrophonic LP Great shape too & heavy! LOL! Gord's Gold - Excellent shape! Cold On The Shoulder - Fair to good. Summertime Dream - Very good condition. Endless Wire - Same condition as above and whitness on cover intact. Dream Street Rose - Regular and promotional copy - Equally good. Shadows - Unscratched vinyl and cover is good but I had to glue the liner back shut. Salute! - Practically new. East Of Midnight - Unlikee most i see, this one didn;t have a white ring on it,vinyl A-OK. Gords Gold 2 1989 - Just found it weeks ago! :) Vinyl has barely any scratches & back cover has starting of a ring at the bottom. (Now,like the rest,in plastic cover. The rest are several of the UA BEst of's. Some are a little scratchy but the covers are great. Even have the "animated "Pickwick" collection and an excellent german import collection. |

I have 24 Gordon Lightfoot LP's. And since 1970 when a new one would come out, I would go & buy it... (ASAP) right away. ;)
I do have the "Sit Down Young Stranger" one, and like Andy said, where the cover had nothing but the reprise logo and catalog number in the top corner. The center of the record has 4 different colors, yellow, pink, black & green w/ a ship photo on the green section, the word Reprise on the black part. No value that I know of, but worth all the money in the world to me ! Here is a pic that I found @ Google of that early reprise label. The part where it reads; ESTEREO GX 01-566 Cara A ................. on mine is pink, not fadded as this one seems to be ? http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2420/...e21f53.jpg?v=0 And this is a pic of my 24 Albums. :) |

not a collector but enjoyed reading these proud responses re the 8 track, does the album jump track right in the mist of song(s)?...if so, do you anticipate then miss that now when listening on CD? |
Re: any collectors of LP's (albums) of lightfoot?
Stairway to heaven, I had never thought of that, I like it. :)
((re the 8 track, does the album jump track right in the mist of song(s)?...if so, do you anticipate then miss that now when listening on CD?))... jj Im not exactly sure what your asking here,,, No the album does not jump, and if it did I would certainly not miss it now that I can listen to it on CD. Hope this answers your question ??? |

Or was she asking me, since I mentioned quad-8 8-tracks. I've also got several other GL albums on normal 8tracks as well. But I don't believe any of them suffer from the "track change fade-out/fade-in" syndrome. Quad-8s especially don't, as they are only two-program tapes, each one with 4 channel (surround).
Back to the SIT DOWN YOUNG STRANGER label, I've never seen that particular pictured label on it before. That's a Mexican pressing in the photo, so JesseJoe, is yours also Mexican? I just dug out my copies, here's the 4 labels I do have. The "Seven Arts" inprint of Warner/Reprise I think was being phased out when SDYS came out. I have two US Reprise versions, the W7 and a white label promo, then a Canadian version, then I guess the last one is a Record Club version, since it's got a different catalog number and says Capitol Records on it. And then a shot of the album cover, the one that I have with shrink wrap on it. -Andy |

interesting, thanks...i only ever had the normal type some of my LPs actually suffer track change syndrome, but that's from my years of improper handling jj (she-male) |

I can make yours out just fine just as long as I kept clicking on the photo to enlarge it. Ah, so I guess my Canadian pressing must be a later one than yours then.
No 7-Arts logo on that one I see, from what I gather, Warner/7-Arts got bought in 1969 and the 7-Arts logo was phased out. Mine is the only piece of GL vinyl I've ever seen that logo on it. Then again, that 7-arts merger thing mayhap didn't apply to foreign-subsidiaries of WB. -Andy Edit: I went and 'snagged' your album photo and cropped it down and resized it to match the ones I made of mine today. I'll throw it in here for anyone who wants to see it for comparison's sake with the others I put up above. |
